Is there a TV death that had an impact on you? Or that you never got over?
When I was about 10 years old, there was a character by the name of Molly Jones on A Country Practice (an old Australian TV show).
Molly was a married mum of a toddler. She had leukemia. At the end of an episode, Molly was laying on a chair, watching her baby girl, Chloe and her husband Brendan flying a kite. Molly slowly drifts off and the screen goes black. Brendan realises she's dying and runs to her, calling her name..
This was in 1985 and it was my first experience of death - On TV or real life. I cried for weeks, and refused to watch the show for a long time afterward.
Another death that completely wrecked me was Claire McLeod on McLeod's daughters. Claire and her sister, Tess were driving home from a day out. Baby Charlotte, Claire's daughter was in her baby seat in the back. Claire hit a pothole and lost control of the car for a second, but was able to correct - but then swerved to miss a brumby on the road - they lived in the country..
She then lost control and the car came to stop hanging over the side of a cliff. Claire's leg is stuck and she is unable to get out of the car. Tess manages to get out and save baby Charlotte. She looks around to try to find some way to save Claire and the car from falling. Claire says her goodbyes to Tess and asks her to look after her baby girl before the car drops... Tess makes her way home on foot with the baby to raise the alarm.
I always, cry buckets watching this episode. HYSTERICAL crying.
